Chosen by KINGS for its beauty, climate and poise, this hill town has a history engraved into the Mountains. Originally, a part of Bhutan, it merged with Darjeeling after 1856 Anglo – Bhutan war, itflourished as a Wool Trading Center with Tibet till 1950.Kalimpong is situated at an elevation of 1748 m in the subdivision of Kalimpong. It is another beautiful and important hill station at the Mahabharat Range of Himalaya in West Bengal, like Darjeeling. The River Teesta is left behind far below and lonely, apart the town from the country Bhutan. The crowd less peaceful town Kalimpong located in between Deolo Hill and Durpin Hill. Deolo Hill is the highest point in Kalimpong, has an altitude of 1,704 m (5,591 ft) and Durpin Hill is at an elevation of 1,372 m (4,501 ft).The famous monastery Fobrang and Nine Hole Golf Course are situated at the top of Durpin Hill. Kalimpong is an ideal tourist spot for every one, due to its climates.

It is not too hot at summer and not very cold at winter. If weather is clear, then you can take a marvelous view of the Mt. Kanchenjunga and surrounding town. And also can take a view of sevaral other hills, like- Kang, Jaanu, Kabru, Pandim, Seembu, Siniyalchu and Chomio Mou. Horticulture is also important to Kalimpong. It has a notable flower market for its wide array of orchids; nurseries, which export Himalayan grown flower bulbs, tubers and rhizomes, contribute to the economy of Kalimpong.Kalimpong is famous in all over the world for its unique and exotic flowers, orchids and cactus. There are many commercial flower nurseries in Kalimpong which export flowers, orchids and cactus to other states and countries.

Apart from the above tourist destination, there many more tourist spots in and around Kalimpong. Kalibari of Kalimpong, 2 kilometer from the town, which is built on 1956; Satmile View Point; Tharpa Choling Monastery of Geluk-Paa community, which is situated at 1704 meter elevation on Deole Hill; McFarlane Memorial Church; Nature Interpretation Centre near Kalimpong College; Mangaldham Temple, recently constructed place of worship; Deole Dam are also famous of them.

Kalimpong is Hindu majority area, but some population are also belongs into Buddhism, Muslim and Christianity religion. Nepali is a common ethnic community in Kalimpong and they are the majority here. Indigenous ethnic groups include the Newars, Lepchas, Bhutia, Sherpas, Limbus, Rais, Magars, Gurungs, Tamangs, Yolmos, Bhujels, Sunuwars, Sarkis, Damais and the Kamis. The Bengalis, Marwaris, Anglo-Indian, Chinese, Biharis and Tibetans are also very much available here. Languages spoken in Kalimpong include Nepali, which is the predominant language; Lepcha, Limbu, Tamang, Kirat, Hindi, English and Bengali.
